Every summer in June and July, the biggest names in jazz meet in the small and ancient town of Vienne, 30 kilometres south of Lyon. For two weeks, this usually sleepy town is completely transformed: bars are packed, streets are filled with all kinds of musicians and the omnipresent festival-goers rush from one place to the other in search of music and swinging rhythms. The epicentre of this artistic explosion is found at the top of the old town in the Roman theatre. Themed nights are organized, and include blues, Afro-Cuban and other international genres.
